Overview
Number of deaths caused by malaria in Indonesia in 2023 amounted to 1 876, which is 7.86% less than in 2022, when it was 2 036 cases. This is the first year of decline after a period of growth. Since 2000, for the whole period of WHO statistics, this indicator has increased in 1.21 times. The highest malaria mortality rate was in 2010, when it reached 3 209 deaths. The minimum of Indonesia was recorded in 2018, with a value of 1 142 cases. All values are approximate.

About indicator
The number of deaths due to indigenously acquired malaria was reported by national malaria control programs to WHO. The number of malaria estimated cases per Plasmodium species was used to estimate deaths after applying a species-specific case fatality rates.
