Passenger transportation by air | India – yearly data, chart and table

Number of passengers carried by air transport in India in 2021 amounted to 83 964 797, which is 21.76% more than in 2020, when it was  68 959 633 passengers. This is the first year of growth after a decline. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) statistics, since 1970, the volume of air transport passengers has increased in 31.43 times. The lowest number was recorded in 1971, with a value of 2 554 000 passengers. The maximum passengers by air transport in India was in 2019, when it reached 167 499 116 passengers. Air passengers carried include both domestic and international aircraft passengers of air carriers registered in the country.
