Passenger traffic of railways of Israel in 2021 amounted to 1 956.00 million passenger-km, which is 56.12% more than in 2020, when it was  1 252.90 million passenger-km. This is the first year of growth after a decline. According to the International Union of Railways (UIC) statistics, since 1995, the volume of railways traffic has increased in 7.33 times. The lowest passenger traffic of railways was recorded in 1995, with a value of 267.00 million passenger-km. The maximum in Israel was in 2019, when it reached 3 579.90 million passenger-km. Passenger-km is a standard unit of measurement used in transport statistics to express the total passenger traffic. It combines both the number of passengers and the distance travelled into a single metric. The data from UIC is based on voluntary reporting by railway companies, and can show drastic increases or decreases for some of the years due to lack of reporting by some of the companies in that country.
