Overview
Number of smokers amounted to 22.40% of the adult population of Italy in 2022. In 2021, the value was 22.60%. It has been falling in this country for already 7 years in a row (Includes only years with available data). Since 2000, for the whole period of WHO data, share of tobacco users in Italy has decreased in 1.17 times. The highest number of people who smoke was in 2000, when it reached 26.10 % of population 15+.

About indicator
The percentage of the population ages 15 years and over who currently use any tobacco product (smoked and/or smokeless tobacco) on a daily or non-daily basis. Tobacco products include cigarettes, pipes, cigars, cigarillos, waterpipes (hookah, shisha), bidis, kretek, heated tobacco products, and all forms of smokeless (oral and nasal) tobacco. Tobacco products exclude e-cigarettes (which do not contain tobacco), “e-cigars”, “e-hookahs”, JUUL and “e-pipes”.
