The Average Women Peace and Security Index Score of Italy in 2024 was 0.827. In 2022, the index value was amounted to  0.842 points. This is the first year of decline after a period of growth. WPS Index scores and ranks are determined by performance across 13 indicators of women's status classified under the three dimensions of inclusion, justice, and insecurity. The country is scored on a 0-1 scale with a score of 1 being the highest possible outcome. Since 2018, for the whole period of observation by Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS), this indicator has increased in 1.05 times. The lowest WPSI score in Italy was recorded in 2018, with a value of 0.790. The highest index value was in 2022, when it reached 0.842 points.
The structure of the 2023/24 WPS Index has been updated. Four indicators are new or different in this edition: access to justice, maternal mortality, political violence targeting women (PVTW), and proximity to conflict. Women, Peace and Security Index offers a comprehensive measure of women’s wellbeing in over 177 countries.

The Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index captures 13 indicators of women’s status classified under three dimensions: inclusion (economic, social, political); justice (formal and informal discrimination); and security (at the individual, community, and societal levels). It combines performance across indicators and dimensions to generate a country’s score, between 0 and 1, and establish its ranking.
