Passenger traffic of railways of  in 2007 amounted to 1 528.50 million passenger-km, which is 32.45% more than in 2005, when it was  1 154.00 million passenger-km. It has been growing in this country for already 3 years in a row. According to the International Union of Railways (UIC) statistics, since 1995, the volume of railways traffic has decreased in 1.10 times. The lowest passenger traffic of railways was recorded in 1999, with a value of 745.00 million passenger-km. The maximum in  was in 1995, when it reached 1 680.50 million passenger-km. Passenger-km is a standard unit of measurement used in transport statistics to express the total passenger traffic. It combines both the number of passengers and the distance travelled into a single metric.
