Overview
The proved oil reserves of Nigeria in 2021 reached 36 890 million barrels, which is 0.222% less than in 2020, when it was 36 972 MMbbl. This is the first year of decline after a period of growth. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA) data and BP Statistical Review of World Energy, since 1980, the proved reserves of oil has increased in 2.12 times. The minimum of Nigeria was recorded in 1997, with a value of 15 521 million barrels. The maximum proved oil reserves was in 2018, when it reached 37 453 MMbbl.
