Land area under cereal production of Suriname in 2023 amounted to 49 813 ha, which is 1.73% more than in 2022, when it was 48 965 ha. This is the first year of growth after a decline. According to the FAOSTAT data, since 1961, the land used for cereal production has increased in 1.89 times. The minimum cereal cropland area recorded in 1961, with a value of 26 340 ha. The maximum of Suriname was in 1986, when it reached 75 313 ha. Cereals include wheat, rice, maize, barley, oats, rye, millet, sorghum, buckwheat, and mixed grains. Production data on cereals relate to crops harvested for dry grain only.
