Prevalence of overweight among adults | South Africa – yearly data, chart and table

Proportion of overweight people (BMI of 25 kg/m² or higher) in South Africa in 2022 amounted to 55.05% of the adult population (18 years and over). In 2021, the value was  54.92%. It has been growing in this country for already 32 years in a row. Since 1990, for the whole period of WHO statistics, the prevalence of overweight among adults in South Africa has increased in 1.40 times. The highest number of overweight people was in 2022, when it reached 55.05%. The minimum was recorded in 1990, with a value of 39.19% of total adult population of South Africa.
